Follow-Up Templates That Actually Get Replies
Template 1 — New Information Follow-Up
- "Saw something that connects directly to what you mentioned — [specific update]. Thought you'd want to know before deciding."
- Use this when you genuinely have something new — a price movement, a unit availability change, a market shift.
Template 2 — Direct Question Follow-Up
- "Quick one — when we spoke you mentioned [their concern]. Has that changed at all on your end?"
- Use this when too much time has passed and you genuinely don't know where things stand.
Template 3 — Honest Close-the-Loop Follow-Up
- "I don't want to keep following up if the timing's wrong — should I check back in a few months instead, or is this still active?"
- Use this as your final message in a sequence. It respects their time and often produces the most honest answer yet.
The Rule Behind All Three
- Every message must contain something the client didn't already know, or ask something specific enough to require a real answer.
- If your draft message could be sent to literally anyone in your pipeline unchanged, rewrite it.
